Caleb Clark, Manager of Gas Process Chemicals

Based in Sugar Land, Texas, Caleb Clark has built a global career in oilfield and gas chemistry, combining technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for problem-solving. He is now Manager of Gas Process Chemicals, a role he has held for one and a half years.

Having earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Louisiana State University in 2005, Caleb moved to Houston to start his career with Nalco Energy Services, a division now in SLB. Early in his career, he played a pivotal role in the commercial deployment of the Clean n Cor® corrosion inhibitor products to market, while also providing technical support for the company’s Alaska operations.   

He describes this period as highly rewarding, especially the development of a corrosion inhibitor and cleaner that removed iron sulphide deposits contaminated with oil. Even years later, when he sees a chemical tank with the product label, he feels a strong sense of satisfaction. The project stands out not only for its lasting impact but also because it resulted in a novel solution.

Subsequent international experiences, including a role as group leader in Brazil, have shaped and benefited Caleb both professionally and personally. He is now fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and has developed a strong appreciation for the diverse cultures of the world.

Caleb’s appetite for problem-solving and willingness to learn from customers and colleagues have driven his career forward.  In 2014, he stepped into a senior group leader role in RD&E in the USA, leading gas sweetening product developments before moving into the role of Director of Asset Integrity.   

Driven by a passion for solving a wide variety of challenges, he became Director of Midstream RD&E in 2020, where he and his team developed unique solutions for pipeline customers and advanced the Gas Treat® product line for amine plants. Last year, he took on a new role as Manager of Gas Process Chemicals and now leads a growing team. For Caleb, no two days are the same. His greatest fulfilment comes from tackling complex problems that seem unsolvable and finding innovative solutions for customers.

Now that Champion X is part of SLB, Caleb says there are endless possibilities to support customers and shape the energy sector. Both organizations have fantastic cultures with amazing technology offerings that complement each other very well.  His long-term objective is to learn as much as possible and seize the right opportunities that may come his way.
