Duy Nguyen, Industry Fellow, ChampionX

With a career in chemistry spanning over 20 years, senior corporate scientist Duy Nguyen has a strong background in surface and colloid interface science. He joined ChampionX in 2007 as a research scientist and has applied his extensive knowledge of the petroleum industry to drive solutions to our customers challenges.

After gaining his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1983, Duy went on to receive his PhD and subsequently a Post Doctorate. He currently plays a leading role in ChampionX’s asphaltenes research team, using his experience to help develop new products to combat the problem of asphaltene deposition.

Duy explained: “ChampionX really provide the freedom to innovate which is one of the things I enjoy most about my role. By gaining a deeper understanding of specific compounds, we can develop chemicals to provide effective and more environmentally friendly solutions to the industry.”

Duy continues is a key contributor to ChampionX’s driving initiative for developing better methods and narrowing the gap between asphaltene control chemical performance in the laboratory, and performance in field application.

For the last six years, Duy has been Associate Editor of the prestigious peer review publication, Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, and is a reviewer of a number of other peer review journals. On top of this, he has written and published 114 papers and issued 47 patents based on the discoveries from his research.
