Rachel Hudson
Championing data storytelling and chemistry for real-world solutions
Rachel Hudson, Technical Lead at ChampionX, has established herself as a crucial link between technical research and practical solutions for clients in the energy sector. Based in Midland, Texas she plays a critical role in translating complex technical data into actionable insights, helping customers tackle pressing operational challenges. Her expertise spans both upstream and midstream sectors, supporting major operators and numerous other clients in the field.
Rachel’s path into technical services began with her academic foundation in geology, earning a Bachelor of Science at the University of Massachusetts followed by a master’s degree at Texas Tech University. Initially working as an offshore processing geophysicist, she eventually discovered her true passion in geochemistry, which led her to the ChampionX business in 2018. Her willingness to relocate and adapt was a game-changer: she began as a technical service professional in West Texas but made a critical transition to Southeast New Mexico, immersing herself in the high-demand environment of the Delaware Basin at the peak of its activity. This role has allowed her to seamlessly integrate her expertise in chemistry, geology, and data interpretation, carving out a unique niche that blends science, teaching, and hands-on fieldwork.
At ChampionX, Rachel has made data storytelling a key part of her work. By transforming technical datasets into visual narratives, she helps customers grasp data driven insights that might otherwise be difficult to interpret. This approach has proven highly effective in building client trust and enhancing the company’s value as a problem-solving partner, making complex information more accessible to a range of stakeholders.
One of Rachel’s standout projects at ChampionX is her work on ParaClear, a solution aimed at transforming paraffin management for customers. Noticing an opportunity to further align ChampionX’s advanced lab testing and real-world field results, Rachel took the initiative to bridge this gap. Her efforts with ParaClear have resulted in significant improvements in paraffin treatment, reducing emissions, improving operations and ensuring lab testing more closely mirrors practical, field outcomes. This dedication exemplifies her commitment to innovation and her willingness to take on high-stakes projects.
Rachel’s dedication is underscored by her resilience and personal drive. After stepping away from the industry for 18 months when she became a first-time mom, she returned to join ChampionX with renewed determination, balancing career advancement and family life. Following the birth of her third child in 2022, Rachel continued to push her professional boundaries. During her second maternity leave, she achieved a personal milestone by submitting a technical abstract to SPE, managing to complete her first technical paper while caring for her newborn daughter, as well as a three- and five-year-old at home. Rachel’s perseverance and focus have allowed her to build a fulfilling career, with the steadfast support of her husband, while meeting her family’s needs, highlighting her exceptional commitment to work-life balance.
Today, Rachel manages diverse responsibilities, including customer-facing meetings, and data analysis. Her work demands adaptability, with frequent changes in her daily tasks, yet she finds satisfaction in solving customer issues, mentoring colleagues, and supporting ChampionX’s mission to provide tailored solutions.
