Sandy beaches, warm sunshine, and oil and gas? In Trinidad, these things go hand-in-hand as the southernmost Caribbean Island that’s been active in the oil and gas industry for more than 100 years. For the last nine, ChampionX has been proud to be a part of the region’s local economy, delivering a number of oilfield chemical solutions to customers that have generated cost improvements, production optimization, and contributed to customers’ sustainability goals.

Rishi Mahadeo is ChampionX’s Chemical Technologies Lead in Trinidad, managing all local operations for the last two years on the island. He’s no stranger to living and working in the Caribbean - having worked internationally, he moved back to Trinidad for work and family. “It’s like working in paradise”, says Rishi.

Under Rishi’s leadership, ChampionX will soon expand its presence in Trinidad with the opening of a new oilfield services chemicals lab and distribution facility containing warehouse storage and office space. The 2,500-square-foot investment, located in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, includes a 400-square-foot laboratory that enables ChampionX to perform on-site testing which includes corrosion coupon analysis, chemical compatibility testing, and bacteria level determination in produced water, among many other analyses.

“It’s small for now, but the important thing is that we have our own facility—our own place—our own HSE standards being rolled out, says Mahadeo. “Prior to that we were storing our chemicals and doing everything via a third party. Now we are totally independent. Now we are 100% ChampionX.”

The facility will open on December 8, 2022, and Rishi is proud to be able to continue delivering value for our customers in the region. “I absolutely love [being an employee] at ChampionX. The company not just preaches but practices an open-door policy. They’ve provided a lot of training opportunities for me in terms of sales and management, which has helped me better manage my employees here in Trinidad. I’m excited to expand our work here in the coming months through the opening of our new facility.”
