Aerial Surveys
Aerial surveys conducted by ChampionX Emissions Technologies involve high-precision flights utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation to detect and quantify methane emissions or other emitters from surface sources. These surveys are designed to provide detailed insights into emission sources by employing a single-engine propeller aircraft equipped with advanced technology, including wavelength-scanned cavity ring-down spectroscopy. These surveys rapidly cover large target regions, identifying methane enhancements that signal emissions sources. The data collected is processed to identify emission areas and estimate emission rates.
Detection: To detect methane emissions, our experts conduct systematic surveys by flying straight-line paths perpendicular to the wind at an altitude of approximately 500 feet above ground level. This method allows for efficient coverage of up to around 1000 km2 in a single day, with one plane. The system identifies methane concentration enhancements that signal emissions sources upwind of the aircraft.
Quantification: Our system can quantify even small methane emissions, down to 500 standard cubic feet per hour (10 kilograms per hour), with an approximate 1-kilometer pinpointing accuracy under ideal atmospheric conditions.
