Fracturing Fluid Systems
ChampionX creates a wide variety of well stimulation additives for hydraulic fracturing that improve safety and reduce environmental impact. Our offerings include high-performance materials designed to maximize your well productivity and decrease costs. We offer synthesis and formulation expertise, as well as total fluid designs, including custom additives. Because water’s unique characteristics can make or break an operation, we will analyze your frac water to guide product development and selection, and we will diagnose any ancillary issues related to water quality, such as bacteria, hardness or scaling tendencies. Additionally, we assure compatibility between all additives and optimize all components, including crosslinkers and breakers, for the ultimate in performance.
Fracturing Chemical Solutions
Biocides & Preservatives
To reduce the risk of irreversible production issues such as toxic and corrosive H2S, biofilms and iron sulfide plugging, or pitting from microbially-induced corrosion, biocides should be used during water-based drilling and completion. With our proprietary Accucount™ technology, onsite assessment of your water is provided before and during completion.
With the use of produced water becoming more common in the industry, topside and downhole bacteria risk management is needed to prevent bacteria-induced production challenges. Our preservatives can provide extended biocide protection in your reservoir to control bacteria growth in the formation.
Scale Inhibitors
Scale can significantly reduce oil production and forms when co-mingled water sources, topside and/or during downhole injection, cause changes in brine composition, pH, temperature, and pressure. ChampionX offers scaling risk assessment and various scale inhibitors for short- or long-term well protection.
Water Flow Improvers
ChampionX flow improvers optimize water throughput by reducing eddies against the pipe walls of a turbulent system. These chemicals can reduce pressure in water transfer lines or increase flow when the same mechanical energy is utilized.
Surfactants
ChampionX offers customized surfactant formulations to help improve fracture conductivity and prevent fluid blockage. Chemicals including non-emulsifiers, flow-back aids, and production enhancement agents are designed with fracturing fluid component compatibility in mind.
Formation Stabilizers
Migratory formation fines and swelling or migratory clays are typically present in nearly every formation and can impact fracture conductivity and impair well performance. ChampionX offers a range of formation stabilizers to prevent damage and help enhance well productivity and well life. We have the capability to customize chemistries and design the optimum solution based on reservoir rock and formation fluid characterization. From temporary to permanent, our stabilizers are compatible with fracturing fluid.

We consider chemical compatibility to ensure optimal fluid performance and cleanup. We back our programs and products with full lab capabilities, including 12 HTPT rheometers, autoclaves, three core flow instruments and full surfactant testing capabilities. Ultimately, our quality assurance (QA) eliminates Non Productive Time (NPT) fluid issues on location when you source products from multiple vendors.
